Deep, grounded, and traditionally made.

A lard-based soap scented with whiskey and oak, colored naturally with indigo.

This bar is made with lard rendered by hand from our own pigs, raised on pasture and forage. Lard has long been used in traditional soap-making for its ability to create a stable, long-lasting bar with a creamy, balanced lather.

Whiskey and oak lend a warm, woodsy scent that feels grounded rather than overpowering. The fragrance is rich and familiar, evoking aged wood, subtle sweetness, and depth without sharpness. To color the soap, I used natural indigo powder, giving each bar its characteristic blue tone without synthetic dyes.

As with all of our soaps, this bar is made using American-made sodium hydroxide, distilled water, and a small amount of sodium lactate to improve firmness and longevity. Each batch is poured, cut, and cured slowly, allowing the soap to fully develop before use.

This is a straightforward, functional bar with a little more character, made for those who appreciate tradition with a deeper edge.

Why This Matters

Scented soaps often rely on heavy fragrances or artificial colorants that add little beyond appearance. This bar takes a more intentional approach by pairing a familiar, grounding scent with a naturally derived colorant and a time-tested soap base.

Using lard from animals we raise ourselves keeps the process honest and local, while indigo offers a natural alternative to synthetic pigments. The result is a soap that balances craftsmanship, practicality, and sensory appeal without excess.

This bar is not meant to be flashy or trendy. It is meant to be used, enjoyed, and trusted, just like traditional soaps have been for generations.

Made by hand in the U.S. in small batches with 100% organic ingredients. Gluten-Free, Corn-Free, Soy-Free, Nut-Free, Alcohol-Free. No Artificial Colors, Flavors, Fragrances, or Preservatives.

Ingredients: Pure Lard, Distilled Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Baphicacanthus Cusia (Nees) Bremek Powder and Fragrance

 *Certified Organic Ingredient

This bar contains pure lard rendered from pigs we raise here on pasture. Animal fats are incredibly beneficial for skin health and healing.

Lard (Sus scrofa domesticus)

Lard has been used in traditional soapmaking for generations and was commonly chosen for everyday household soaps because of its reliability and skin compatibility. In traditional practices, animal fats were valued for producing soaps that cleanse thoroughly without excessive stripping. Lard contributes to a creamy, stable lather and a bar that holds up well over time. Its fatty acid profile helps create balance between cleansing and conditioning. In this soap, lard forms the foundation of a durable, practical bar made using time-tested methods.

Water (Aqua)

Water is an essential component of traditional cold process soapmaking, allowing the sodium hydroxide to dissolve and properly react with the fats. Historically, clean water sources were considered foundational to successful soapmaking. During curing, much of the water evaporates, leaving behind a solid bar. Its role is functional rather than active. Distilled water is used to ensure consistency and purity throughout the process.

Sodium Hydroxide

Sodium hydroxide is a necessary and traditional ingredient in true soapmaking and has been used for centuries to transform fats into soap through saponification. When formulated correctly and allowed to cure fully, it does not remain in its original form in the finished bar. Traditional soapmakers relied on precise ratios and adequate cure time to ensure a gentle, stable soap. Its inclusion reflects adherence to traditional methods rather than shortcuts. Without it, real soap cannot be made.

Sodium Lactate

Sodium lactate is commonly used in traditional-style soapmaking to improve the structure and longevity of the finished bar. It helps create a firmer soap that unmolds cleanly and lasts longer during use. Its role is supportive rather than active, contributing to durability without changing the character of the soap. Only a small amount is used for this purpose. In this formula, it helps ensure a bar that performs well with regular use.

Whiskey & Oak Fragrance

The whiskey and oak scent used in this soap was chosen to add warmth and depth without overwhelming the senses. In traditional grooming and household products, wood-forward scents were often favored for their grounding, familiar character. This fragrance is used at a level appropriate for wash-off products and is intended to complement the soap rather than dominate it. Its role is purely aromatic, adding character and sensory appeal. It does not alter the cleansing function of the bar.

Indigo Powder (Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Bremek)

Indigo has a long history of use as a natural dye across many cultures, valued for its deep blue pigment derived from plant material. Traditionally, indigo was used to color textiles and other goods long before synthetic dyes were available. In soapmaking, indigo powder provides natural coloration without relying on artificial colorants. Its use here is intentional and restrained, contributing color without affecting the soap’s performance. Each bar may vary slightly in shade, reflecting the natural origin of the pigment.

These descriptions reflect traditional herbal use and formulation principles rather than intended medical outcomes.
