Mullein leaf and flower: This herb is a powerhouse for respiratory health and is used to treat congestion, irritating coughs and asthma. Mullein has expectorant and demulcent soothing properties due to its beneficial mucilage that reduce inflammation and soothe. To retain that mucilage, I extracted it separately using cold infusion.

Elecampane Root: These rhizomes have a long history of use for respiratory support (among other uses). They work to help move phlegm from the lungs as a stimulating expectorant and are specific for irritating bronchial coughs, especially in children. The mucilage has a relaxing effect and the essential oils provide stimulation. This herb soothes irritation and promotes expectoration. It also has an antibacterial effect.

Nettle leaf: I included nettle leaves for their antihistamine action as well as their proven ability to reduce inflammation in the lungs. They are incredibly effective against hay fever and have immunomodulating effects.

Licorice root: These rhizomes have many applications. One of them is a highly effective treatment for asthma symptoms and breathing problems. Its been known to soothe airways, reduce inflammation, is a highly effective expectorant, relaxes bronchial spasms, eases soreness and inhibits histamine release. Licorice root has been used effectively for colds and flu, emphysema, gingivitis, viral infections, fungal infections, ulcers, psoriasis, tuberculosis arthritis, allergic asthma, depression and more.

Turmeric Root: These roots are a powerful anti-inflammatory and have been shown in trials to improve symptoms of asthma. They improve airway obstructions and therefor improve breathing. To keep things simple, curcumin reduces inflammation of thickening of mucosal lining in the airways in asthma.

Ginger Root: One of the herbs I'd highly recommend whenever there's a cold or flu would be ginger. The roots are great for upper respiratory system infections and congestion. They are stimulate the flow of stuck mucous, relieve congested coughs and stuffy sinuses and warm you up from the inside. They also relieve sore throats and are antimicrobial.

Take 1-3 ml as needed.
