*Dandelion Leaf: I often use dandelion in oral extracts as a bitter tonic or diuretic but it is also an effective reliever of joint pain when taken orally or infused in oil and used topically. The constituents help to inhibit inflammation and massaging onto swollen and painful joints can help control flare ups.

*Menthol Crystals: Menthol is an organic compound found in many plants including mint varieties and eucalyptus. The crystals are created by rapidly cooling these plants. Menthol functions as a topical analgesic and relieves pain. The cooling action helps to soothe sore muscles and joints and reduce inflammation and desensitize some of the nerves responsible for sending pain signals. While menthol doesn’t actually lower body temperature, it stimulates the body’s thermoreceptors. This sends a signal to the brain that the body is cooling down. It has also been shown to increase blood flow and therefore speed healing. Menthol also reduces bronchial constriction and airway hyper-responsiveness and thus eases respiratory infections, cough and restrictions.

*Peppermint Leaf: Peppermint is renowned as an antispasmodic to alleviate cramping and spasms. It is a favorite for relieving headaches and other body aches.

*Eucalyptus Leaf: Eucalyptus contains many anti-inflammatory compounds, such as cineole and limonene, which may act as pain relievers.

*Basil Essential Oil: This is one many people do not use very much but is appropriate in this salve! It can also be used to alleviate the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and sinus infections. It may improve blood circulation, has possible analgesic properties and may alleviate cramping due to its carminative properties.

To use: Rub onto the chest and behind the neck and breathe deeply for congestion relief. Use as needed for arthritis and joint pain.
Avoid use near the eyes.
